Tulsa Praise Orchestra came to life during the summer of 1995. The brainchild of trumpeter Bob Archer, the idea was to form a big band made up of Christian musicians performing predominantly Gospel music. The word was circulated throughout the Christian community in churches and schools and a reading session was held. The band quickly developed a repertoire of tunes and performed its very first concert at Southern Hills Baptist Church in Tulsa in 1995. Over the years, the band has performed over 350 concerts throughout Oklahoma, Texas, Missouri, Kansas, Arkansas, and New Mexico. The band has performed at such venues as the Grand Palace in Branson and the Red Gold Heritage Center at Silver Dollar City. Other notable concerts include performance with the famed Dukes of Dixieland, Steinway recording artist Larry Dalton, Grammy Award winner Phil Driscoll and famed composer / arranger, Ralph Carmichael. Other notable events include a concert for Oklahoma Senator Jim Inhofe and US Vice President Dick Cheney. Numerous TV appearances round out our engagements including “Live with Chuck and Jenny”, “Show Your Colors, America”, “God Answers Prayer” and others. |
