About the Band

In 1995 a call went out to musicians in the Tulsa area. A new Big Band was forming. The idea was to have a band of Christian instrumentalists perform a variety of Big Band style tunes with an emphasis on Gospel music.

The band was formed by trumpeter Bob Archer, who continues today in the role of General Manager. "We quickly put together a repertoire of tunes and held our first concert at First Baptist Church in Tulsa". Since that humble start, the band has performed over 350 concerts throughout the Midwest, from Tulsa to Branson, Kansas City, Dallas, OKC, and Santa Fe, New Mexico.

TPO, as the band is also known, has performed with top names in the Gospel music realm. Names like Dave Boyer, Ernestine Dillard, Phil Driscoll as well as local favorites like, Glory - an outstanding vocal ensemble, Jack Spratt & 7 Mile Road, Sandra Hopkins and Alice Coe all combine to bring a powerful music experience to our audiences.

Over the years one of our favorite themes is to honor our nations Veterans. In 2010 the band will take our "Let Freedom Swing" concert series to Military Bases throughout the region.

Stay tuned as the Tulsa Praise Orchestra swings into your community in 2010!
